An American teacher living in Malta brings ELA, Social Studies, and creative writing to life through a month-long virtual cultural exchange.
Apply for Fall 20261. The Island Intro
A live Zoom field trip introducing Malta's history, temples older than the pyramids, and walled fortress cities.
2. A Month of Emails
Four weeks of curated email Q&A. Students learn what life in Europe is like while reading Starkeeper in class.
3. The Author Visit
A final Zoom session to discuss the writing process, the messy reality of drafting, and the inspiration behind the book.
More Than Just an Author Visit
I'm an American teacher who has been living in Malta for over a year. My background is teaching theatre, English, and history - including writing several curricula. This isn't just a standard author Q&A; it's designed to hit your ELA, Social Studies, and writing standards.
And yes, life in Malta is VERY different. One thing that might surprise kids is the thing I miss most, by far, from the USA is GRASS. Yep, regular green grass everywhere.
Kids often don't think of questions on the spot, but they will later on. Take a round-up of those questions as you go, and I'll answer them over our four weeks of correspondence. Learn what makes life here unique, from Roman ruins to Carnivale to cliffside beaches, all while exploring the themes of creativity and overcoming jealousy found in Starkeeper.
